Business Ethics
This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of ethics, philosophy, and the translation of these concepts to the organizational culture and decision-making processes both in management as well as on employee level. The course also outlines the industry trends on corporate social responsibility and sustainability as a fundamental ethical pillar in the enterprise that is to succeed in today’s world.
Earth Population & Urban Growth
This course explores the developments of the earth population and urban growth. The earth population, today 7 billion people, will grow by 1 billion every 13-15 years. In 2040 we must expect approximately 9 billion people. 90-93% of the earth population will live in Asia, Africa, and South America. 70% of the earth population will live in urban areas. Students are given insight into the enormous impact on the world of business of these exponential developments. The world is changing faster than most businesses are able to become aware of or adapt to these changes. Creating a new business, developing a business or simply managing challenges in businesses or corporate groups requires managers to have the ‘big picture’ about global developments related to population growth with all its effects (food, products, infrastructure, energy, environment, health, transport, tourism, etc.).
Resources, Raw Materials, Energy & Renewable Energy
This course highlights the development of global trends in light of limited resources and raw materials. Students explore the current trends in energy as well as the alternatives of renewable energy.
Climate Change & Implications
This course explores the developments of climate change and its implications. Students are given insight into how the global average sea level will rise and how it will affect the business world. During the next 30 years the rise in sea level will be 2 cm per year. Heat waves, drought, fires, rainstorms, floods, tornados, hurricanes, and tropical cyclones will become more frequent, more widespread and/or more intense. 300,000 deaths and 300 million people are affected every year by global warming. Floods will affect 2 billion by 2050 due to climate change, deforestation, rising sea levels. 3.2 billion people will experience water shortages due to climate change. Estimated yearly costs of climate change damages (worldwide): over 1 trillion Euros. Climate change could cost the world up to 25% of its entire wealth. The business world must become aware of such developments and use all vanguard tools to efficiently solve and counter these issues.
Personality Development
Personal development is a holistic psychical-spiritual process. ‘Spiritual’ always refers to values and meaning beyond the materialistic world. The psychical reality is the field of personal development. Human behavior is mostly tied to the individual psychical-spiritual state of a person, the result of countless forming processes since the prenatal time. The highest aim is a well-balanced development of all psychical forces, including basic patterns of dealing with life and people, towards efficiency, quality and wholeness. The course provides the essential knowledge about the characteristics of the development of ‘personality’ during the course of one’s life and reveals the importance of a consciously managed self-development (self-forming) in order to become strong and constructive for business and life.
