Contamination, Waste, Sewage and Sanitation

This course covers the issue of contamination, waste, sewage and sanitation throughout the planet. Sewage of 2.5-3.5 billion people goes to the soil, sea and oceans. Millions of tons of toxic chemicals from the industries are dumped into the sea every year. Moreover millions of tons of plastic debris, industrial chemicals, agricultural waste, petroleum, etc., end up in the oceans every year. Oceans, seas, lakes, rivers and groundwater are contaminated by countless different consumed medications. Soaps, shampoos, hair products, cosmetics and perfumes that contain chemicals also end in the water courses. Several hundred carcinogenic elements and millions of tons of fine dust are everywhere in the daily life environment. Global emission of carbon dioxide will increase. Hundreds of thousands of tons of nuclear waste must be stored, controlled, protected and administrated for hundreds of thousands of years. Poisonous substances are present in food, soil, air, water, sea, and then in the human’s body. Nearly half of the earth’s population suffers from illnesses and disease due to pollution and contamination. – This course aims to identify the network of human factors, to define aims, measures and strategies for solutions.

Agriculture, Food, Water, Health and Education

More than one third of the earth’s population is malnourished, under-fed or starving; living with rare access to health care. More than a billion humans dispose solely of dirty and contaminated drinking water; another billion are analphabets or have very little basic education. More people will suffer in the future from hunger due to higher food prices. Immense amounts of agricultural land are lost every year to environmental degradation, industrialization and urbanization. Industrial agriculture has destroyed millions of small farmer businesses. Wheat, grain, maize, rice, cocoa, fruit juices, sugar, staples, meat, and coffee are now the new fields for speculations with shameless price increases. Fishes and sea fruits are eating unimaginable chemical and drug residue cocktails. Fishing resources are rapidly decreasing because of excessive exploitation. Most resources are exorbitantly overexploited and within decades destroyed. – This course aims to identify the network of human and institutional factors, to define aims, educational measures and strategies for solutions.

Poverty, Hunger, Diseases and Unemployment

More than half of the earth’s population lives in absolute poverty, or under poor and very poor conditions. 50 per cent of all children on earth (2.2 billion) live in poverty. 1.3 billion people earn less than US$1 per day. 50% of the earth population lives from less than $2.50 per day. At least 80 million people in the EU live below the poverty line. 44 million Americans live in poverty. The 20% richest population disposes of 75% of the global income. The world’s richest 1% own 40% of all wealth. Four of five people on earth live from less than $10 per day. Half of the earth’s population disposes of 1% of the world’s wealth. In many countries the rate of unemployment is disastrous: 8-25% and up to 30-50% of the youth do not have a job. Hundreds of millions worldwide do not have enough work. Four of five workers in the industrial nations are scared of losing their job and see no future perspectives. Increasing poverty will enormously affect businesses around the globe, causing serious risks. – This course aims to identify the network of human and institutional factors, to define aims, political and economic measures and strategies for local, regional, national and global solutions.

Business Ethics

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of ethics, philosophy, and the translation of these concepts to the organizational culture and decision-making processes both in management as well as on employee level. The course also outlines the industry trends on corporate social responsibility and sustainability as a fundamental ethical pillar in the enterprise that is to succeed in today’s world.

Personality Development

Personal development is a holistic psychical-spiritual process. ‘Spiritual’ always refers to values and meaning beyond the materialistic world. The psychical reality is the field of personal development. Human behavior is mostly tied to the individual psychical-spiritual state of a person, the result of countless forming processes since the prenatal time. The highest aim is a well-balanced development of all psychical forces, including basic patterns of dealing with life and people, towards efficiency, quality and wholeness. The course provides the essential knowledge about the characteristics of the development of ‘personality’ during the course of one’s life and reveals the importance of a consciously managed self-development (self-forming) in order to become strong and constructive for business and life.
